RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Cindy I am looking forward to the Ohio Rally in June. This will be a great time to celebrate and look back on all of the events that have taken place in the last three years. Old Fella would be proud to know all that is happening. His spirit will live on forever and champion the cause of all of the old strays that are homeless. What a great journey he has taken us on and continues to show us there is still work to be done. I am also looking forward to seeing old friends once again.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

On our trip to the beach Suzie did not get car sick there or back. On our recent trip to Greenville, SC for Christmas Suzie got sick on the way there and somewhat on the way back. Thinking over her past trips Sue and I came to realize that Suzie gets car sick riding in Sue's white truck and not the beige truck we tow the camper with. Reading about car sickness in dogs on line there are articles that say most dogs do not suffer from motion sickness but from anxiety. I am now starting to believe that Suzie suffers from anxiety attacks not from motion sickness. When she was a puppy she and her sisters were carried to the dumpster in some kind of vehicle and left . When I rescued her she was taken from the dumpster to the vet, in the bed of my white pickup truck. When she went to adoption events she rode in the bed of the white truck in a kennel cage with the other puppies. Everytime she was taken away from her security she traveled in a vehicle of some kind. There have been times she has gotten sick before the truck even moved from the driveway. But every successful trip she has had has been in the beige truck with the camper hooked to it. So I am beginning to think I should paint the white truck beige and get a cardboard replica of the 5th wheel to put in the bed of the truck and Suzie is cured!

Richard, did Peaches like the water? From the picture it looked like she really didn't want to get wet. Welcome home and glad you guys had a great trip. Becky Peaches is a lady and ladies don't get dirty, wet or engage in anything that might show extreme joy or excitement, maintaining always the dignified air of pristine refinement to the utmost of prefection.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Visiting Hunting Island was bitter sweet. So much has changed in the past year with the passing of Levi,Fella and Charlie. As I walked along the beach a flood of memories swept over me thinking about Levi and Fella walking on the beach with Sue with Fella's first trip. How exciting it was for Fella as he absorbed all of the sights and sounds. Levi was proud to show off his new friend and showed Fella around as if it was his own private playground. Suzie brought life back into the outting with her unbridled joy as she raced through the sand and then plowing through the water at break neck speed chasing the birds and sand crabs that ran along the beach and then would hide in the sand as she approached. Peaches was more refined, a perfect lady, always showing ellegance and poise no matter what. Peaches thinks chasing things is not the lady like thing to do, especially out in public. Monday I will start writing the book and setting a deadline for myself to finish it by next Christmas. I intend to go back to the beginning of the thread using it as my notes to make sure I get the facts right. I also plan to tell some of my life in the book so folks can get to know me better. I want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year and may all of your dreams come true.

Welcome One Country Boy, its good to have another FOOF to join us. Everyone had a great time at the beach. The weather was spring like except for New Year's Day. Here are some pictures and as soon as I have the others developed I will post some of them. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/Levi449/081229092308.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/Levi449/090102042202.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/Levi449/081229093602.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/Levi449/081229093420.jpg

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

What a wonderful Christmas we had with the children and grandchildren. Poor Suzie got very, very, very, very car sick going up there and coming back home. Tomorrow I will try the Rescue Remedy to see if that helps her. Sue and I had a long talk on the way home and she has convienced me to start in January to write the book "A Very Old Stray, The Old Fella Story." Sue believes that only I am capable of writing the real story filled with the emotion that will make it come to life. So I am making a committment to Old Fella to write his story the way it was experienced not only by Sue and I, but also by everyone who has become a part of this great life adventure. The journey will begin just as it did that Labor Day weekend 2005, but also looking back into Fella's past and the years he spent as a stray in the Modoc Campground. I hope to be able to end the story with Fella's name sake being built "The Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue Center." I feel I am still on a journey with Fella and it will not end until our goal is accomplished and that his name will become a house hold word across this nation. Being named Rver of the Year has inspired me to continue the work and cause of bringing attention to the stray animals of America. 2009 will be a banner year for Old Fella. I just wish he could have been here to see it.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good mornig everyone. Well Christmas is over and all the kids had a great time. It hasn't been cold here at all, which is unusual for Greenville. This morning it is raining so I had ro stand in the rain while Peaches and Suzie went outside to take care of business. They have eaten now and wanting to play so I will get ready to take them for a walk. We go home tomorrow and then leave for Hunting Island on Sunday to stay until New Year. It still hasn't dawned on me yet what being RVer of the year is all about so I am excited about the coming year and whatever comes. I have to go for now so I will talk with you later.

What a joyous time to celebrate family and friends. Today as we remember the birth of our Lord may we all pause to give thanks for the blessings He has given. I would like to thank all of you for being a part of mine and Sue's life and especially that of Old Fella, Levi, Charlie, Suzie, Peaches and Izzie. As we look to start a New Year together I can't help but be excited about the honor of being named the very first Good Sam's RVer of the Year and getting to meet new friends as Old Fella continues to carry us on a journey of love, peace and compassion. I cannot tell you how much I look forward to the trip in April to the Rally and get to meet some wonderful people who have blessed our lives. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone and may God Bless.

We made it! Poor Suzie didn't do well however. It was the first trip for her since Virginia and she got so sick it was pitiful. I had a big mess to clean up when we got here. I have tried everything I know and nothing seems to help. Maybe someday she will be okay. We are excited about being with the kids at Christmas and then I look forward to our trip to the beach Sunday. I hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and Santa is good to each of you. Take care and I will talk with you later

Dixie, Since you are not riding your bicycle yet, maybe the fella upstairs is trying to tell you that exercise is in your future. Seems it would be easier to just put the back of the bike on jackstands and ride in the house.:B:B:B Sue has had me out everyday on the bike except for yestaerday which was toooo busy for anything else but rescue work. I really enjoy the bike and the time spent out riding around the city. It is great exercise especially when I let Sue ride up front and drag me along behind her.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

RIchard and Sue THe award you are honored with is much deserved,,,,,,Your dedication to animal rescue that was inspired by one loving old dog , has inspired so many and hopefully will continue to inspire all who know you and the story of Fella i truely want to attend the rally in NM, and am trying to figure out how to swing it As to the Aussie Shep, is this dog at your house???? Why keep it outside, they love to "herd" and probably would enjoy the company of Susie and Peaches and terrify the poor cat......How old is this guy???? I am sure COde2 has some terrific ideas to help you The Aussie is at a foster home down the street from Sue and I. See it doesn't pay to live too close to us, you might become a foster home. You can't trust him outside without being in a fence high enough so he can't climb it, so deep in the ground he can't dig under it and for goodness sake when you open the gate to squeeze yourself inside make sure there isn't enough space for him to dart past you. The pattern in the fence is in squares about 12inches by 12 inches and he managed to put his head through one of the squares and then got his whole body through it and he isn't that small of a dog!! I found him yesterday at the city park playing with the kids, trying to heard them into a little group. He was having fun but the kids didn't understand what he was doing and was terrified. When I got there and saw what was happening I made sure the kids understood he was playing and didn't intend to harm them. I made the mistake of throwing a ball one of the kids had and when he went sfter it he kept on going. Finally I found him again and brought himk back to the foster home. Sam is a young dog, I would say maybe two years old or less, full of energy and loves to run and run and run and run. His next best thing is he loves to eat and eat and eat.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Today I have been dealing with a beautiful Australian Shepherd that is so hard headed. He won’t stay in a pen where he is safe but every chance he gets he climbs out of the pen and hits the road. He has worn me down and I am tempted to chain him to something that is taller than he is, please just kidding. Sue and I are on our way to buy a dog house and put him in a pen that he can’t get out of but has no protection from the weather. The temp tonight will be very cold so we need to get something that he can find shelter in from the cold. Okay, we’re gone.
